Fire/Rescue Training
Fire training is held on the third Thursday of every month with special drills on off nights.
Mexico Volunteer Fire/Rescue is committed to providing emergency and non-emergency services to protect
the lives, property, and environment of our community. We believe the pursuit of excellence and demonstrating
high professional standards are critical to our work. We know well-functioning teams of people are more
effective than individuals working separately; our lives depend on it. We understand the trust placed in
us by the public and our colleagues is integral to the performance of our duties. We are committed to
honest and ethical behavior, and we will hold ourselves accountable to these values.

Dive Operations
Our Dive - Water/Ice Rescue Team - was initially formed by individual members who saw the need for such a
group within our district. With Lake Ontario on the North border of our district along with the many ponds
within our area, helped to fuse that need. This team still exists today. Our divers are all certified
to operate in limited visibility, cold water (ice) and overhead environments (under ice). The Fire
Department has provided the dive team with two ice rescue survival suits for the dive tenders. The Fire
Department, in conjunction with its dive team, conducts training on a local level as well as county wide
in Lake Ontario, and in environments that we are called to work in. Other members of the fire department
are trained in dive rescue operations, ice rescue, and in the use of the two ice rescue survival suits.
These suits protect the rescuers while they are performing rescues in the water or on the ice.

EMS Training
EMS training is held on the first Thursday of every month.
Our members train very hard, whether the member is an EMT or not, in order to provide quick and efficient
care when called upon to an EMS incident. Training isn't just limited to medical evaluation and treatment.
We also train on initial assessment, extrication, CPR and the many other facets that involve accident patient
care. We operate with fully equipped light and heavy rescues. Working together within our own group of
firefighter/EMT's, McFee Ambulance, Mercy Flight, NY State Police, Oswego County Law Enforcement as well
as neighboring organizations, we can supply the care that is required in a true emergency.
We encourage everyone, especially the younger generation, to watch the video on this page
and reflect on what it means to you. It should make you think twice about drinking and driving! You see,
no matter how often or how well we train to save lives, we don't always win and it's never easy to just walk away
from an accident without feeling the devastation to family and friends that it has caused.
