Nearly one million people visit the New York State Fair annually to see the best livestock and agriculture, the latest and greatest
vendor presentations, arts, crafts and beautiful New York State flowers. They come to experience the roar of the Midway, to taste
foods that are simply New York, to attend favorite concerts and shows and to meet great New Yorkers. The weather was perfect August 30
as the annual Firefighters Parade took place. The parade route was lined with hundreds of fire department supporters, children with
eyes wide as the shiny red trucks drove by and proud family members of these incredible men and women that serve their communities.
Over 60 fire departments were represented in the parade with only four awards at stake. The Mexico Volunteer Fire Department was awarded
three of the four coveted trophies winning “Most Men in Line”, “Best Marching Unit” and “Farthest Traveled.” Over 20 MVFD men traveled
approximately 40 miles to march perfectly in step as onlookers cheered their performance. The Camillus Fire Department won the “Best
Appearing Apparatus” trophy with their new Sutphen 100-foot platform truck. Members of the Mexico Volunteer Fire Department walked away
with proud yet mischievous smiles on their faces knowing that next summer their brand new KME 75-foot Quint Aerial Truck will be part of
the parade.
